Bluetooth virus
I've heared something recently on the news about viruses that can infect your phone through Bluetooth if it is activated, and they didn't say anything about recieving any files. Just walking at less then 10 metres from someone with an infected phone. Anyone have a clue what this is about?

King Kong: Here's some links I found on Bluetooth Virus. It seems like once you're infected, the virus scans for other phones that use Bluetooth technology. The part about the 10 metres is some think that you're only vulnerable if you're 10 metres away which is false. The virus can get you further away but you have to have this Bluetooth technology in your phone.

The thing is, if something like this happens to you, you won't even notice because there is nothing to tell you its happening.

Cool!...in a morbid, I hate the person behind it sort of way...but cool...I knew it would be jsut a matter of time...wait til someone rips off your banking info while you are on the phone...enter a new business venture...writing anti cell phone virus code...actually, the virus is probably the child of the same venture business...

With every new technology, there is always someone out there who wants to break it. Some people like a challenge. There are, however, companies that employ these types of people in order to create better, more secure systems, applications and technology. I wouldn't be suprised if consulting firms specializing in mobile anit-virus protection started popping up. Anti-virus companies like Norton will probably toss their hat into the mix as well.

There should be a firewall. But, there should also be anti-virus, like econ said.

I have not heard anything about this but if it is true that is really bad becasue a lot of phones could get infected in places like the mall.

I love the delicious irony that the more advanced we become, the more vulnerable we are. Is there some moral to be learned here? I keep having flash forwards to humanity's future onboard Battlestar Galactica. I for one welcome our advanced techno-overlords.

I LOVE it, and oh how true! In all honesty, I think we were safest when we didn't have phones and we buried all our money, in mason jars, in the back yard. The viruses can get annoying but I guess it's the artist and the rebel in me that is still amazed by these kids and how quickly they can find a way in and screw up technology. It's incredible. The idea of a virus that spreads from phone to phone, without you even having to be talking to the infected phone? Wow. Think about how scary that could really be... yikes! |

I think they should capture the people who spread these viruses and study them and see what the hell makes them tick? And at night, they should room with the rest of the lab rats.

get unplugged and enjoy the real world. Peace and quiet, no one yakking on the phone or text messaging you. What a concept!
