Solar powered backpack with built in chargers

I saw this on "I Want That" on HGTV. There is this backpack that has solar panels on it to charge a battery inside. Connected to this battery are several different size connectors for cell phones, pda's, ipods, etc. And the solar energy is even stored up for cloudy days. So it's possible to charge as you go. Would this be the most awesome accessory in the world or what? It's expensive right now (everything on "I want that" is way overpriced) but I'm sure the price will come down eventually. I've got to get one of these.

WOW.

I really couldn't imagine having one of these. I don't use my cell phone THAT much where I would be in dire need to have a backpack to charge my cell phone, etc. I just use it enough where I have to charge it every other night. It's alright with me

That could come in handy! My cell phone lasts the entire day, normally, and I always plug it in when I get into my car, but I often forget to charge my ipod and it's annoying when it runs out of batteries in the middle of the day.

I wouldn't pay very much for such a backpack, a couple hundred at most, but it's an interesting concept which probably will take off.

If I remember correctly, the solar panels were on the front flap of the backpack. And I really don't think you have to spend endless hours out in the sun. Probably just from parking lot to building, and then maybe when you head out for lunch. The energy gets stored in the battery so I'm sure the small amounts of time in the sun add up.

It sounds like a genius idea, if it is managed correctly. I keep having nightmare images of some astronaut backpack comprised of a single giant battery. If there are any Aqua Teen Hunger Force fans out there, I'm sure we'll agree that an eBackpack is just as bad as an eHelmet.

I'll wait to see a final product.

I know they already offer solar chargers for when you need a little extra juice. They usually plug right into the bottom of the phone. A wind powered charger would be an interesting idea, especially if you mounted the rotor on a hat... hmm...

Tom, that is the most brilliant idea I have yet to see in these forums. I was thinking that phones needed more hat related accessories. You win the "Most Clever Person Of The Day" award.

Now... Make it happen!

I have also seen something like that before. I have also lookedfor one on ebay and other sites and you can get them for pretty cheap but I do not think that I would ever use one because I am never away from home for that long.

Maybe a briefcase, but not a backpack unless it was small enough that I could carry other things in it....

if you need all that, might as well just hook up a land line and walk around with the extension cord.

*chuckles*

That backpack sounds pretty awesome, but, I wouldn't pay anywhere near what their asking for it. I can charge my phone overnight each night and it'll last me the whole day
