Black Adam: Dwayne Johnson Reveals Aldis Hodge's Reaction to Being Cast as Hawkman
It was recently announced that Hawkman will appear in the upcoming Black Adam film, starring Dwayne Johnson as the titular antihero. Johnson recently shared actor Aldis Hodge's reaction to winning the role. Johnson shared the call on Instagram. The actor noted that it was "one of the best conversations" he had ever had. Hodge was initially sceptical and, thinking he was the victim of a prank, he demanded that the other person stop playing on his phone. However, Johnson continued to thank him for his audition and efforts, ending with, "And one more thing — welcome to Black Adam." Johnson wrote that he could hear him cheering in the background, leaving Johnson in hysterics.
Introduced in 1941 by Gardner Fox and Dennis Neville in Flash Comics #1, Hawkman was originally archaeologist Carter Hall, the reincarnation of ancient Egyptian prince Khufu, who was murdered with his consort Chay-Ara. Reunited in the modern day, they fought crime as Hawkman and Hawkgirl. Subsequent revamps of the origin introduced Hawkman instead as a fierce warrior from the planet Thanagar. Hodge will join Dwayne Johnson and Noah Centineo in Jaume Collet-Serra's Black Adam. The film arrives in theaters Dec. 22, 2021.
