BOLT Web Browser

Bolt Browser
From Bitstream (the Thunderhawk people)

There's a J2ME version and a Blackberry version. It's currently a free public beta, and it works great on my Samsung a737. Some things I like:
  • Split-screen view makes it easy to navigate when viewing full web pages
  • I can view Flash video within the web page
  • Supports AJAX, so I can get the real Gmail (even though Gmail has an HTML version as well.
  • Fast (though not quite as fast as Opera Mini)
They just released Beta2 today or yesterday. If you already have BOLT installed, it should download the new version when you open it. The J2ME version is up 16k in size from 155k to 171k (compared to Opera Mini's 149k).
New things include landscape mode, video quality settings, a dedicated menu page, saved pages, and a folder system for favorites. The loading bar looks a little smaller too. This levels the playing field a little with Opera Mini. Now they both have landscape/portrait modes, they're pretty equal as far as storage (bookmarks, favorites, etc.). Mini still has a nicer look/feel (different skin colors too) and is still a little faster, but BOLT is better for desktop style stuff.
Videos are still a little buggy, playing them in the phone's player is still the better option. They have much improved the Blackberry version from what they say on their website.
For what they added go to Bolt Browser and click on the yellow banner in the top left. Click on Download for a free download.

BOLT Web Browser

Bitstream has announced an updated BETA version of its mobile browser BOLT. We were impressed with the original BETA version and these updates are expected to only improve a very good browser.
The update represents a considerable number of changes which include a new 3XL magnification mode bringing content 33.3% larger than 2XL; double tap protection to eliminate inadvertent clicks; Wifi auto-selection as a default option; Save/View pages locally on the phone; landscape view feature; improved video quality on mpeg4 capable devices; support for folders in Favorites; improved scrolling speed and the ability to reduce menu clutter in the preferences menu.
The BETA2 download can be found over at the BOLT website and it is a free download.
