Thinking about buying
Hey guys I've been doing some research on the iPhone and I'm really thinking about buying one, but online theres nothing but mixed reviews, and I'm not sure about it. Can anyone who owns one (3G-Pay as you go) give me any info on it?
Whats the deal with the wifi, does it work everywhere? Is there a way around lack of mms, does it make much difference? Is the camera that bad? (I go to see a lot of bands and a quick snapshot is always handy) Is there a better, faster alternative with the same/better features? thanks in advance |

1, Yes you get internet but some areas are patchy with the 3g which is
faster connection. 2, Currently the iphone does not support this and as far as im aware no 3rd party apps are not available. 3, 2mp is below average in this day and age. Perhaps no lower than 3.2 is average. But with 5mp and 8mp now the average the iphone is somewhat weak in this field. 4, Perhaps the tocco is better with slightly quicker internet access although at the moment no fone on the market matches the touch interface. £349 for the 8gb or £399 for the 16gb is fair which incorperates 12 months unlimited internet access and then £10 a month therafter is reasonable.

Thanks for replying mate, it doesn't seem all that bad, but not great either it's a hard decision.
I've heard that you can't get custom ringtones on it, is it true? And what do you think about the texting interface? Does it support bluetooth? Thanks. |

All you can use via Bluetooth on the iphone is for headset calls.
Maybe they will open the bluetooth profiles in time. Yes you can set a tone as your incoming call alert. No MMS which is a shame too. Texting at 1st is a learning curve but you get used to it and adjust. I remember when I first got my ipod touch and used the touch interface when online. What a nightmare at 1st but you soon adjust and will be texting as fluently as on a normal handset.

Thanks very much for the info mate, it seems to lack a few things but I'm hoping things like video recording, mms and bluetooth may come at a later date. But for now I think the awesomeness outweighs the suckage.
Cheers again |

sorry being thick!
hi,
just been reading through this thread and i have a question. do you mean that i will not be able to link this to the bluetooth in my car? i have a bluetooth/radio/ etc combination within my car which is great cos i can't get on with headsets. it would be a major consideration to me buying or not the i-phone. thanx and happy christmas. |

I would investigate the samsung omnia. Its kind of a windows version of iphone without the limitations of the iphone. Iphone cant send files or anything but it does have other good features such as good internet browsing and ipod. Dont quote me on this one as i have never had an iphone but i think the bluetooth in your car will work as its already classed as a headset.

i phone.
I agree the handset should recognise the car kit. Other functions such as sending data like pics/tones is not. Also the handset does not support certain platforms which means you cannot access certain pages of the internet. Recently they had to pull at tv advert saying you can enjoy the full richness of the internet ! Lack of MMS is really poor when this spec is supplied with the very basic of handsets these days !

haha!!!! - "the handset does not support certain platforms which means you cannot access certain pages of the internet. Recently they had to pull at tv advert saying you can enjoy the full richness of the internet" Thats sooo funny. I personally wouldnt recommend iphone at the moment untill the price goes to at least £250 on pay as you go because i think thats all its really worth. Same goes for omnia but i want one soooo much!!! haha. It goes on pay as you go next 2 months over here

Here in the Philippines, they sell IPhone 3G in a plan basis good for 24 months time, and its affordable for as low as $10 a month, you will have free SMS and 20 hours of wifi access if activated.
