nuisance calling.

Hi all newbie here hope every one is well..

I am having a nightmare with some nuisance calls they all start with 070998 there are about 5/6 different numbers with the 070998 prefix, when they call they call me once then hang up when I call back it rings a while then goes to voicemail...

The crazy thing my phone refuses to send a text to any of these numbers my partner has tried too..

anyone got any ideas whats going on here?? its driving me crazy I am on the 3 network could it be anything to do with them?

Help!!

Regards

Danny

That's weird. Is this the kind of thing that might be someone trying to get access to your phone or something?

I also couldn't understand how this kind of thing is being done. We don't have that kind of problem in our place.

I'd say call your provider and ask them what's going on! If nothing else, they might be able to track the calls and figure out where they're coming from.

How often is this happening? Is it worth requesting a number change?

Call your porvider. I had this happen with Orange at one point, and it was actually them sending me 'deals' via voice mail, but they didn't always record. I made a ruckus and they stopped it.

I was under the impression that the 070 prefix was used for personal numbers, i.e call me anywhere numbers. OfCom would be the people to call for advise. Home page | Ofcom

I would defiantely report it to your provider. Mention it being harrasment if you like. They should assist you in dealing with it.

Oh good. I don't have an 070 number but I keep getting calls from an 888 number. I try calling back and am told that the number is not in service or is an incorrect number or something like that.

*SIGH* Even with advances in technology, someone can still find a workaround.

Lots of times I just don't pick up the phone if I don't recognize the number. I figure if it's important they'll leave a message, right?

That's how I handle apparent telemarketers on both my home and business lines. Especially when they call during dinner.

070 numbers can be premium numbers. i used to get them often but hav'nt had them for a while. its usually a missed call. i guess if u call them back they make £2-£3 for each call and thats how they cheat you. (united kingdom)

Cool

This si sometimes a company that has paid for your number and are trying to sell you something like a contract or ringtones etc.

What happens is your number is dialed automatically via a switchboard network but if when it connectsa an operator is not available to talk then you get a dropped {silence} call.

Normally BT can stop this kind of calling by you joining a company for free that stops these calls. Unfortunatly mobile networks do not offer this service currently.
