Do you own your mobile phone number?
What rights do you have to your mobile phone number?
I was with EasyMobile which was part of the Easy group in the UK. The providers abandoned the UK and I took up the option to move my number to Fresh, part of the Carphone Warehouse group. They have screwed up and my number has effectively been given to someone else who is as bemused as I am because they were expecting a different number. I have spent hours and lots of money trying to get Fresh/Carphone Warehouse to do something about it. It is now seven weeks and they have still not sorted anything out. Two weeks ago a "manager" stated that there were approx 300 people in the same boat. At that time (having already been provided with a new sim at a CW store and been told to "wait 48 hours") the "manager" stated that a new sim had been sent out the day before and, wonder of wonders, it has never materialised. Do I have any legal rights with regard to ownership of the number? Is there some mobile phone ombudsman? Do I have a hope in hell of getting my number back? |

fresh lost my mobile number
Hi, I was with EasyMobile too and ported to Fresh in December 2006, they sent 3 different Sim Cards with different phone numbers but not my original phone number, and I had to wait a week before I got my number back.
I have had my phone number ever since mobiles first came out and use this number for my business it is a lifeline to me. Since then it’s been fine then last Monday the 15 January 2006 the phone went dead no incoming or outgoing calls not even 999, I complained, they have given my phone number to someone else by mistake, so the same thing happens again Sim cards start arriving, when I register them they say it’s the wrong Sim card so now they are sending another one, which has not arrived yet. I am going to seek Legal Advice on this matter as I have now lost 2 weeks of business due to this not to mention the amount of stress and arguments it has caused. Please let me know your outcome. A number can only be ported if the original account with your 1st service provider is still live and normally takes 5-7 days to do.
