directory assistance for U.S. users
Personally, I never use directory assistance on my cell phone (Cingular) because I'm usually near a computer where I can look it up, but my daughter is away at college and always on the go, so she's needed it several times. I was astounded, though, when I got my bill and saw the additional charges! It seems like directory assistance should be either inexpensive or free, given that people using cell phones are often out and about when they happen to need a number, but I guess the companies are exploiting that need....

I have never used directory assistance on my cell phone but I know from my home landline it can be very costly. If I know I might need a number before I head out, I will look it up in the phone book or on the web and store it in my phone. I dont even want to know what ridiculous amounts my provider would charge.

Charges are insane for information! Might as well top somewhere with Internet to get the number or directions. It's cheaper!
That 1-800 number though, I didn't know that. I'll have to try that the next I need directions or the number of some place I'm supposed to be. |

Thanks! I'm programming it into my phone right now and then texting it to my daughter. I really appreciate the info! |
