Smile Unlocking Nokia N95

Hey All,
I just got a Orange Nokia 95 Contract and I am wanting my handset unlocked, When I put another sim card in the phone (O2) says sim not valid.

Also a went to a phone shop they said they would have to downgrade my phone as the software is 2008 thats in it.

Does anyone know a free way of getting my handset unlocked?

Hmm so it was the 'free' fone you was after !

Did you know n95 8gb can be purchased for £250'ish second hand ,which is probably alot cheaper than the 12 to 18 months your going to pay for your contract ! Dont be tempted to default on payments as they will block the imei number rendering it as useless as a paperweight.

The original network will not unlock the fone until the contract has expired and then will charge an adim fee of £35 or so.

The shop you went to wont probably have the current software to open the fone to all networks hence why they want to downgrade which is not a good idea.

Try another outlet like your local flea market, until you find someone with the current software.

Its a shame you didnt get it from cpw as they dont brand or lock their fones at all wether they are on contract or payg.

The other issue you may get is that when the network purchase the handset they tend to impose their own software which can clash with your alternative networks sim.

Dont be tempted by internet / auction sites offering codes, cables etc for a fee. Lots of people have been burned.
