Iphone 3G in Australia

Hello!

I'm a german exchange student and live in now in Australia for one year. I want to buy an Iphone 3G over here. I want to buy at Optus (dunno if its the best provider...) and looked at that site
'yes' iPhone Plans

But I don't really know what I exactly have to pay!!! Maybe one of you (who has a better overview than me) could tell me what the Iphone would cost (all payments together) if I want 500MB UMTS, an Iphone 16Gb and want to text a lot!

And another question: Would it make more sense if I would buy an Prepaid-Iphone 3G or would UMTS w cost too much?

greets timo

Your always going to better off with a data package attached to your calling plan.

I would suggest you google for available networks that provide the best network coverage for where you live and study.
