Low-Volume User Woes

Greetings,

I'm still relatively new to cell phones but I signed up for service with Cingular some time ago ...a 2-year contract with monthly bills in the $55-60 range. I wanted to be reachable ... and to reach others in emergency situations. Other than that I don't use my cell phone much at all. So, my Cingular contract turned out to be massive overkill.

Are there other options out there for low-volume users like me? A colleague of mine mentioned a "top-up card" via Virgin Mobile. What is this, please, and how does it work?

Lastly, is there a relatively painless way of getting around the Cingular contract ... and do they renew automatically? (gasp!)

Thanks.

Mike (shamrock828)

Nick is infamous around these parts
Most contracts are normally 12 months long.

I'd advise you to just use some form of Pay as you go and just buy top up cards (usually from corner shops) as and when you run out of credit. You don't pay any monthly contract, just buy the credit as and when needed.
