Can I switch networks while travelling in the UK

When I got to visit my sister who lives in the sticks up North in the UK the signal for Orange goes AWOL - but I know Vodafone works there.

Would I be able to switch to them when I'm there like you can do when you're roaming abroad?

I'm sure its possible, you should try it. No harm in trying is there. If it isn't possible then i would be very shocked.
