HELP! Do I have to pay extra to call from the UK to a UK phone which is abroad?
With Orange, will I be charged extra to call from the UK to a UK mobile number which is outside of the UK?
Thanks! J |

Not sure what you mean by "Extra", you will be charged whatever the going rate is to the country called and in addition the person abroad will be charged for receiving the call. Can be very expensive. |

I think they do have to charge extra because it has to be routed through different connectors. I may be wrong though.

What I have learned is that since that is already a long distance call, there will be extra charge. In our place, they usually say, if you're going abroad, put your phone on 'international roaming' so that you can receive texts. So what happens is that if we text somebody with international roaming phone, we are charged the same rate but if they reply, then they pay additional charge. Guess the same holds true with calling.

In the case of Orange, which I use in the UK and in the US, the service switches over to Cingular in the US so there is an additional charge. It isn't too bad though, but I don't use the phone that much here either.

Don't UK cell phones charge based on the person being called instead of the person calling?

Some companies are different. On my Orange system, all incoming calls are free regardless of where I am. I love that!

Well that is nice. I guess I was under a faulty impression of how things worked over there. |
