De-Fitm Mobile Chooses Covergence to Scale, Secure, and Manage Access to its IP Platform for Mobile Application Delivery
Mobile Application Service Provider selects Covergence Session Manager to scale and secure access to the DeFi Mobile IP Broadband Network
MAYNARD, Mass., February 11, 2008 – Covergence®, the leading provider of next-generation Session Border Controller solutions, today announced that De-Fi Mobile Ltd., has chosen Covergence Session Manager (CSM) to implement security, management and control policies at the access edge of its Mobile Application Platform. CSM is designed specifically to address the challenges of the most vulnerable region of IP networks – the access edge. By deploying CSM, De-Fi Mobile can securely deliver media-rich IP applications and services to its subscribers’ mobile handsets.
Through its peering agreements with over 100 cable and DSL providers, De-Fi Mobile combines carrier grade architecture and next generation mobile technology to deliver a seamless, feature rich user experience. Using BroadSoft’s BroadWorks Mobility Manager, De-Fi Mobile’s service boasts call routing, continuity and a seamless handover between IP domains and Circuit Switch domains, that allows dual mode mobile phones to access a SIP-based network. This enables De-Fi Mobile to offer carrier-grade quality of service at affordable, predictable costs direct to customers handsets provisioned with the De-Fi Mobile client.
“Media-rich IP applications and services are severely stressing voice-centric cellular networks. Users who want those services on mobile devices are largely confined to costly and limited carrier approved and supported services,” commented Jeffrey P. Rice, De-Fi Mobile Co-Founder and CEO. “DeFi has built its Mobile Application Platform to provide a superior alternative for media rich, bandwidth intensive, real time mobile applications and services. Wherever WiFi is available, mobile users can access De-Fi’s application platform to receive voice, video, gaming, web access, social networking, IM, email – you name it. The more people do via mobile broadband, the more essential secure access is to customers’ peace of mind. The Covergence Session Manager enables us to secure and manage delivering these real time services to large numbers of users.”
Covergence Session Manager (CSM) is the industry's first session management solution designed for the access edge. Located where user SIP traffic first enters the network, CSM terminates, secures, controls and manages large numbers of user connections efficiently and effectively. The access edge is more difficult to scale than the network core and the network-to-network peering boundary, especially when providers are managing not just VoIP, but a whole host of real-time services.
“Consumers and business users alike are becoming increasingly mobile device dependent especially with the plethora of rich mobile applications that are now available to increase productivity and efficiency,” said Bob O’Neil, president and CEO, Covergence. “Covergence Session Manager is the only Session Border Controller to have been purpose-built to address the problems of the access edge with carrier grade efficiency.”
