Wink International Earth Hour Initiative

Switch Off Your Lights This Earth Hour™ To Take A Stand Against Climate Change

About Earth Hour:
Earth Hour is a global WWF climate change initiative. Individuals, businesses, governments and communities are invited to turn out their lights for one hour on Saturday March 28, 2009 at 8:30pm to show their support for action on climate change. The event began in Sydney in 2007, when 2 million people switched off their lights. In 2008, more than 50 million people around the globe participated. In 2009, Earth Hour aims to reach out to 1 billion people in 1000 cities.

A Little History:
Initiated by WWF-Australia in Sydney two years ago, Earth Hour saw 2.2 million people and more than 2100 businesses turn their lights off across the city for one hour – resulting in a 10.2% drop in energy consumption during that period. This impact was double what had been predicted, and is the equivalent of 48 000 cars being taken off the road for a year.
Good idea! It seems these local South-African celebs think so too!

So how is MXit involved in all of this? Well they decided they kinda like the vibe of this whole thing (understatement) so they linked it up with their MXit Movies Competition which is already on the go.

How do you enter? All you need to do is put together a video-clip, no longer than 60 seconds, of what took place during your hour of darkness on March 28th. Upload it onto MXit Movies Website ( and wait to see if you can conjure up the highest number of votes.
Grand prize? Just US $5000 to the user with the most votes.

Enough incentive? Get going!
Love your Earth! Turn off the lights!
