My phone turns off and on uncontrolablly, got any ideas????

Hi there,

I have a pay as you go O2 sim card and the phone is unlocked.

The other day I was exploring the features on my phone and put a note to ring a mate on the screen (where my background picture would go). The phone then turned off, momentarily with a white screen, (well went blank and unresponsive) and then after a few seconds turned on again (again momentarily with a white screen. The sequence of turning on is not like when you take the battery out and put it back in and turn it on, ie there is no logo just straight onto the'normal screen'). It is now repeating this cycle within 10 seconds of coming back on.

With in these 10sec's i have managed to remove the note that i placed on the screen, but can't get to the master reset in time or find out what version of software is on the phone.

The fuctions such as the alarm, that was set before all this happened, still work as normal and if no sim is inserted the phone will stay on quite happilly until the battery runs down, but obviously it doesn't load upto the menu's.

I can't take it back to a shop for a replacement, but if there is somewhere I could take it where they would be able to repair it or send it away to be repaired, that would be worth knowing unless you think that there is anything that I could do myself.

If you have any ideas it would be much appreciated.

problem with phone

Is it a motorola ive had that a few times with older one but not with any newer ones. If its under 1 yr old you should be covered by a warrenty.

Actuall phoneman, its a sony ericsson k750i and I know that its my own fault but I don't have a warrenty card with it due to the way that I bought it. I have tried to update the firmware thats on the phone as someone else has told me that this could be corrupt, but my computer doesn't seem to want to do that properly.

If i took it back to the carephone warehouse with no reciept, but thats where it was originally bought from, would they get it sent away to be fixed, obviously with me having to pay for it??

Unlikely they would get it fixed for free. Sounds like it might potentially be a battery issue. Do you know anyone else with the same phone where you might be able to test their battery in your phone and see if it works? If it does then you just need a new battery. Otherwise it is probably a short in the phone, and would have to be fixed.

Just want to clarify here. Are you saying this only happens when the sim card is in the phone? That the problem goes away when the sim card is removed?

Right an update is required here,

I did manage to get the phones firmware upgraded through the sony ericsson website but this hasn't done anything. In the mean time the phone will now no longer show a picture when it is turned on, but i know it is turned on due to the welcoming sounds. It just switched between a white screen and a black screen so i can no longer access any of the menus even for the original short space of time.

Triumph - I'm not sure if I do know of anyone who owns the same phone but am off down to uni soon so will ask around my mates and see if anything comes up.

taiarain - Originally yes the problem did go away when the sim card was removed which i thought was really strange. I have an o2 and a talktalk sim card which i tried and both of them had the same effect. Have just tried turning it on without a sime card but the same thing has not happened - it is still just switching from a white to black to white screen in that cycle.

I had similar happen with my nokia, and it was the battery acting up. New battery resolved the problem for me. Good luck with it.

Dales, I'd call Sony Ericsson and see what they have to say about it.

Yeah may want to see about getting a new battery. Just make sure the store has a return policy in case that was not the problem.

You'll need to exchange it (or refund it), you corrupted the firmware in the phone. It happened with my W300I, have it replaced, that's all you can do. I think this is what you did. You plugged the USB cable to the phone, played with the program that SE gave you, and you jus tunplugged it afterwards. If that's what you did, congrats, you corrupted your firmware in your phone.

Suggestion: Do this next time, when you want to unplug your phone form the computer (after finishing uploading/downloading from your phone), you have to click "Safely Remove Hardware" select the drive that your phone is plugged to, and remove it (should be 2 items, your mem card, and your phone memory). Once all 2 is done, remove it, and you'll be fine.
