I just went to get my passport renewed and noticed that they took my mobile phone....any clue why they would do this?

I'm assuming you mean they just confiscated it for the time you were in the embassy.

probably they don't want anyone taking photographs of the interior - security concerns and all that - betcha dont' see any tourists snapping camera shots either!

Yeah, its just for security. Bit embarrasing if you have some 'pictures' of it in your phone. You get owned just for standing around. With all the tension in the world and what not, it's not a suprise.

yep, gotta be more careful these days - especially with idiots running around! Last thing they need is photos of the inside of the embassy and where the guards are standing, etc.

Well, I am going to take a different route and say, "They just didn't like you...you fit the profile of news reporter that was writing a cover story on the deep dark secrets of the embassy and by golly they were gonig to make an example out of you"...or, yes of course...for security reasons....could go either way.

I like Dark Knight's scenario myself. It was a conspiracy, that's it. They needed to make it look good. Orrrr.... they snagged it so they could get the numbers for all the hot babes in your contacts. Yeah. That was it.

The phone is an electronic, you have no idea what James Bond type stuff someone could be hiding in their phone It was probably just a security measure. Im also sure they dont want people yapping while they're in the embassy.

No, just the security guard wanted a phone and said "This guy has a L33T phone, I think I'll just confiscate it". >_>. Then they sell it on the black market to the taliban forces >_> It all really is a conspiracy.
