Nokia N73 unlocking problem

Hello everybody, I hope somebody can help me with this.

I got my girl a new N73 on orange.

She is out of the country (U.K) right now so I sent her the phone while I
waited for the unlocking code off Orange to arrive.

I now have the code but the process to unlock the phone doesn't work.
I have rang Orange but they insist that the process is correct.

So before she returns the phone to me in the U.K I thought I would try here.

This is how to unlock a N73 according to Orange/Nokia

1. Press the # key
2. Press the * key 3 times - this will produce a 'P'
3. Press the * key 4 times - this will produce a 'W'
4. Press the * key twice - this will produce a '+'
5. Enter in: CODE 1
6. Press the * key twice - this will produce a '+'
7. Press number 1
8. Press the # key
9. "Sim restriction off" or "Phone restriction off" should briefly appear on the screen and the handset will re-set itself

We have tried this but it doesn't work. After pressing #*** all that appears on the screen is '#***' and not a 'P'.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Cool

as only the network can supply the unlock code you will have to re contact orange to confirm the unlock code is valid. Their are actually 3-4 unlock codes for each fone , but if you input the wrong one 3 times this will lock the handset out meaning you would need the handset flashed to open it back up.

Beware of websites offering unlock codes for a fee !

Fones have 2-3 unlock codes each for them so a code obtained from the network may not work with youts.

Remember failing 3 times will result in a hardlock and will then need flashing to open it up again.

A firmware flash introduces the newest software available to add features or simply make your handset work faster etc, Having this done will erase 3rd party downloaded data such as pics and ringtones etc so be sure to make back ups.

Nokia's website has an updater on it. You will need to download the suite and have a data cable. Be sure on what your doing as a failure while doing this will seriously stop your handset from working. The web site is:

Nokia - Nokia on the Web

You will find a link on here to go to the updater,

If your nokia is under 2 years old then the firmware will be done frre of charge at your nearest Nokia Service centre and again this info can be found on the site. Some carfone warehouses have this facility and the update is free,

Unlock codes are sourced from the network the handset is on. You have to be a customer of that network and either finished the contract or have 3 months gone on a prepay contract and expect to pay an admin fee for thew code.
