At school

Has anyone ever seen someone have their phone confiscated when it rang in class? One student in my bio class did today. The prof got so sick of phones (it had been a rule since the beginning of the year that we couldn't have one) that when one guy's went off this afternoon he actually took it away!

good for your prof!

I wish schools would just ban them or set up jammers in order to avoid kids cheating with them or just annoying the teachers!

I never had any experience like that, not in college.

Bravo! Bravo to the professor. Cell phones in college I don't mind so much. Most students, at least in my classes and lectures, turn them off or kept them on silent or vibrate.

High school and below, however, no way! Cell phones should be turned off and kept in the locker. You shouldn't get a cell phone until you get your driver's liscense and then there should be very strick rules about using it.

There is no reason for someone in class to have a phone in the first place in my opinion. You should have no calls coming in more important than your class.

Yeah, it always irritates me when someone's phone goes off during class. It's basic, like in movies, just turn it off. Why don't some people get that?

exactly - HOW important is it that you be in touch with someone in the middle of a class, right? Unless you're waiting for a kidney transplant, turn the phone off!

Makes you wonder how higher education made it this far without cell phones...the professor should keep it for the rest of the day and amuse himself with the incoming call..."no, no johnny can't come to the phone...he is writing on the blackboard, I will not bring my phone to class 1,562 times...thanks for calling though."

I see it everyday. The funniest incident was when my professor Ms. Hall couldn't figure out how to end the call. The ringtone continued to play even when she closed the phone. Finally, she accepted the defeat and asked someone to end the call for her.

Jammers are illegal where I live sadly

LOADS of students at my school get their phones taken away, some people even carry out a conversation right in a middle of an exam..

That happens so much in my school. Some kids will actually go somewhere where the teacher can't see them, and start talking on the phone. It's quite funny, I think. I love how the teacher never catches them for this...

I don't see a problem with cell phones in school = just in class. What the heck is so important that it can't wait till lunch or between classes?

In a few of my classes, I talk on the phone in front of the teacher. In fact, many of us do, and the teachers don't say anything as long as we get out work done (which we do). In other classes, sticking your antenna out of your pocket will get it confiscated.
