Texting

In the Philippines, people are so fond of texting and a cellphone has already become a necessity instead of being a luxury, perhaps in other countries this is also the case, but not as much as our country, even the helpers have cellphones... guess, we are just so fond of communicating and do you know the 2 most common and most popular and regularly used phrases/words that we usually send and reply?

No, I don't. What are they?

Here in the US cell phones are a must for several different reasons.

Interesting. I don't even have any kind of text plan. Really hard to type, takes too much time.

Cellphones are a must. I think the texting is amongst the younger crowd. I use texting alot, but my younger cousins can type messages faster there than on computers.

Yes, texting is much more for the younger generation. I have students that can type a whole paragraph in response to what they are doing tonight in seconds. It blows my mind.

I don't spend my time texting with my thumbs when I can call the person.

I only text if I can't talk to the person in person like at a library or in school. People who text each other a lot are called Text Mates in the Philippines. haha

A lot of older people that I know use text, sometimes because 1)They can't get to the other person or 2)They don't want to talk to them. Text messages are like answering machines in a way, if you can't get to them, you can leave them a message.

Texting

Hello, everybody glad to have your replies in this thread, i am happy to learn more about what you think of texting and how it is viewed and perceived in your country...

In our country, you will be amazed to know that even the oldies are also having cellphones and are also trying their best to text and use it for calling (thought not much for those really old, hah )

The 2 most commonly used words/phrases are as follows:

1. Wer r u? (Where are you?) - we are always looking for other people
2. K (okay) - we are always okay and alright

It means Php1.00 for each send (1 letter = Php1.00)

Some don't really text much but the important thing for them is to inform that ... they are there and are k

Happy posting and texting....

That's pretty funny and text messaging there must be incredibly inexpensive!

Do you think we're just jamming up the air waves with stuff like that?

Do you have any mobile-chat service in your country?

Which carrier do you have?

I try to avoid texting - and it's quicker to pick up and call anyway (at least it is at the speed I text). And I refuse to use text-speak. What a damnation to the English language - as if kids these days didn't have enough trouble learning to spell!! Drives me insane

Hey, Vicki, speaking of texting as inexpensive, how much do you in your country charge for every text message sent?

In our country, Php1.00 is really low already even if people are poor, they usually find a way to have a phone... sometimes they think it is really a necessity... guess it is also in the culture... most of us really like to be 'connected' .... as we are known to be hospitable people ...

Mine runs around 10P per message but you get a lot of free ones. My point wasn't the money, though, it was more about the amount of them sent and what it's doing to the signal capacities, etc. There's got to be a saturation limit at some point.

I text a lot. It has a value in clubs and when @ work. However I also like to have a conversation with folk from time to time.
