Time to coin a new name?

BEIJING, April 20 (Xinhuanet) -- Samsung Electronics Wednesday announced that it has developed a 2 GB MultiMediaCard (MMCmicro card) for use in mobile phones.

The card is about the size of a postage stamp (12mmx14mmx1.1mm), and combines four 4Gbit NAND flash devices. According to Samsung, the card can store 12 hours of mobile video and is fast enough to download three hours of it in under two minutes. An adapter allows the card to be plugged into any multimedia card slot. The card can read at 10MB per second and write at 7MB per second.

Availability and pricing of the card have not been announced; however, Samsung said that it will be shipping a 1 GB MMCmicro card, which was announced about three months ago, "later this year."

Some U.S. Retail sources said that they would expect the pricing of the card to come in at "less than 50 dollars."

Okay, so here is a 2 Gig card...where is the industry going?...And why are still calling the m cell phones?...Isn't it about time we coin a new name for the latest and greatest multi-purpose phones..and suggestions?

OMG. 16 Gigabytes in something as small as a tic-tac box. Less than 50 dollars, are they giving it out for free? Then everybody'll have one of these. Micro-phones maybe?

My first computer had a 200 MB hard drive - and the sucker weighed more than most laptops do today. I couldn't have stored ONE of the pictures that are sitting on my cell phone right now on that hard drive - not if I wanted to keep the photo-editing program on it.

I still remember reading Dick Tracy and marveling over his wrist radio.. yep, we've all come a long way.
