Cell Phone Driving Bans?

What does everyone here think of the recent legisilation in many states limiting or outlawing the use of cellphones while driving? Some states require you use some kind of hands-free device and others want to limit their use in a moving car entirely.

Some studies have shown that someone talking on a cellphone can be as impaired as someone who is drunk.

I don't want the roads to be more dangerous, but I don't think talking on the cell phone is any more distracting than talking to people in the car. I do think dialing and operating a handset can be, so I am in favor of hands-free limitations.

While I was reading your post I was about to say the same thing, it can't be any more distracting that talking to people in the car or listening to the radio. While I don't think it's necessarily good to be dialing or holding a phone, I don't see a problem with using a headset. I am sure they even have voice activating dialing these days so that shouldn't be an issue.

I think that it is very good and it is going to stop a lot of careless crashes that happen when people are talking on the phone.

I agree. I think that this is a huge benefit and is necessary. It's very dangerous whenever someone drives with a cell phone.

I think the danger isn't from talking or being distracted, its because they are only holding the wheel with one hand. I think bluetooth or headsets should be allowed (I think they are).

I agree...although I think I can pretty much handle driving and chatting on the phone I know there are other people who CAN'T, and those are the folks this legislation will save us all from.
