Unlocked

What does it mean when they tell you a phone is unlocked? Does that have something to do with security issues or what? A lot of auctions say that, and also some websites are offering codes to unlock your phone. Can someone explain it to me?

Nick is infamous around these parts
Unlocked means that a phone is available to use on any network - so it hasn't come directly from one provider. Phones like this have either been bought hands only, or been 'unlocked' manually.

Thanks for that information by the admin!

As for us here in the Philippines, unlocked has another meaning here. Unlock in our country means that they will open your phone again because it was been locked or the word here is PUK. PUK main cause is wrong PIN entered. You cannot use your phone unless it will be unlock.

The explanation that the admin has given is called Open-Line in our country.
