Unlocked

What does it mean when they tell you a phone is unlocked? Does that have something to do with security issues or what? A lot of auctions say that, and also some websites are offering codes to unlock your phone. Can someone explain it to me?

Nick is infamous around these parts
Unlocked means that a phone is available to use on any network - so it hasn't come directly from one provider. Phones like this have either been bought hands only, or been 'unlocked' manually.

Thanks for that information by the admin!

As for us here in the Philippines, unlocked has another meaning here. Unlock in our country means that they will open your phone again because it was been locked or the word here is PUK. PUK main cause is wrong PIN entered. You cannot use your phone unless it will be unlock.

The explanation that the admin has given is called Open-Line in our country.

The term " Unlock " defines that the particular mobile phoe is free from network restrictions. so that any international GSM SIM card can be accessed through it.
Usually network providers provide network locked mobile phones to their customers under contract basis. These mobile phones are called network locked mobile phones. The procedure of removing the network restriction is called as " Unlocking "
Unlocking a mobile phone can be done in many ways. The safest and easiest method among them is to unlock using unlock code. These unlock codes can be acquired from network providers or from any reliable third party services. An example for a third party service are Unlocking4Free.com this site provides free unlocking codes for certain basic model mobile phones. Other model mobile phone's unlock codes can be acquired from Super Unlock Codes at low cost.

There is no unlock code for iPhone, for iphone it is remote unlocking service and once the remote unlocking is done we have to connect the iPhone through iTunes to unlock the mobile completely from network.
