Nokia 8801

Check this out: http://www.nokiausa.com/phones/8801

This phone is definitely one of the hottest phones I've seen in a long long time. It's definitely going to be my next buy. Does anyone know when it's coming out in the UK? Has anyone got this phone or know people who have and want to give me some feedback on what it's like?

It may not be the exact model, as my friends and I usually don't give each other cell phone model numbers, but a friend of mine has a phone that looks EXACTLY like that.

He loves it, says it's the best cell phone he's ever had. He's only ever had one minor problem with it, and the tech support was excellent.

That phone is already out in the UK. Although reading the specs, it's not that great. It's more looks than anything. It's not equally as utilitarian.

Probably paying for the materials more than anything

Here's the feature of this phone why its very expensive: http://www.nokiausa.com/phones/8801/...feat:1,00.html

If the price is converted where I live, that would be 40,000 pesos, a 4 months salary of mine. But I guess as new phones will come out, the price of this will go down. I love the features and I hope I could get one.

That phone has been out in UK for a while now under the model number 8800. I upgraded the phone for my dad sometime last month which seems to be OK, its basically a Nokia 6230i with a metal casing.

The black version is nicer.

It is the Nokia 8800 , its just that america use a different tag for the handset.

Ive had mine for 6 months and it does look good and does turn heads when you slide it open.

Its battery life is not superb, so nokia have provided 2 batteries as standard.

The handset has all the features you would want although is let down by an industry standard vga camera.

As for the colour is a matter of taste.
personally i fine the gunmetal version crisper in appearance as the black looks somewhat dull.

The newer version which is the 8800 scricco has a 2 meg camera but the other specs are the same. Although the thumb indentation on the front is more pronounced but looks a little out of place !

The only other thing to note is the much covered issue of screen burn on the handset. This is caused because the poer saver option {time/date} bar does nor scroll down the screen like most other nokia fones.

The scricco also cures this issue.

Nokia have kept both these handsets at a high cost to keep the handset to a premium. Cheapest i have seen it is at the carfone warehouse on payg, at around £450.00 , but even that has been removed, and thus expect to pay around £500 offline for the 8800 and £600-£700 for the scricco. It is also available secondhand from outlets such as CEX.

There are three types of lock.

1, Security lock to stop other same network sims being used , and the default code is 12345, unless it has been changed by the user. This is found under the security menu.

2, Network lock to barr other network sims being used and can be obtained from your network but expect to be charged an admin fee. This code is normally only available after the contract is over or the subsidy recouped on a payg handset which is normally 3 months.

3, IMEI lock is placed on by the network as a result of the owner reporting the handset lost or stolen, or the handset is part of a fraud investigation , which an easy example is a contract is taken out under false details and the person disappears !
