What happens when you return a phone

I just joined the forum and was wondering if anyone could answer this question. I returned my handset to an 02 shop after one week because it was damaged. I received a replacement. My SIM card was removed and put into my new handset. My contacts were all on my SIM card so no problem there. What I forgot to do was delete my phone log and messages and/or do a factory reset. The original handset also had a pin code lock on it. My question is what happens to the broken handset now? Will someone at the shop do a factory reset or will they be able to look at my messages and phone log? There is nothing highly sensitive on there but the phone is used for work and things like people's numbers are to be kept confidential. I just want some reassurance that everything will get wiped and I have nothing to worry about. Thanks in advance.

I look forward to learning more about this phone, Samsung Galaxy 3 mini, and my personal mobile which is an iphone 4 through this forum.
