Question Increase signal strength

Okay, here's the problem. I have a Nokia 9500, and Cingular is my Service Provider. I stay in an apartment with two of my friends, and both of them have Cingular also. The difference is that they have Motorola phones and I have the Nokia. The problem that I am facing is that their phones have signal in the appartment whereas my phone does not. Also when I had a Nokia 6820 I had the same issue, but it really didn't bother me because where I was staying at the time I had good signal. I'm trying to figure out if it is possible to increase the antenna's strength, or replace it with a better one. Thanks guys

Here is another thread that might help you out: http://www.phoneforums.org/showthread.php?t=3475

Seems as if there are some signal booster that you can buy, but hasnt been too much discussion on whether they are really worth the money or not. Hope that helps u some.

Thanks for the link to the thread. I bought some of those boosters a week ago, and they did not help at all. I think a need a way that isn't so passive to upgrade the antenna. I sent Nokia an email earlier today so hopefully they have a good response.

well signal boosters worked out well for my dad as he was also facing problems of weak signals in his office and i dont think that signal strength has got anything to do with different cellphone manufacturers.

I've heard that the signal boosters don't work, or at least on Brainiac it didn't work, and the best way to increase strength is to surround yourself in aluminum foil.

LOL, Kaabi. I've always wondered about the signal boosters, too. Are they semi-permanent attachments to a given phone, or are they more or less portable from handset to handset? My particular problem is that Verizon reception is not good in my house, and my sons' friends who have Verizon sometimes miss calls from their parents, which causes the parents to assume that the kids are doing something they want to hide.... If I had a booster, though, that worked, could whoever needed it use it just while on my premises?

Well I am glad we are hearing some feedback regarding this signal boosters. Seems it works for some and not for others. Hard to say if it is worth the money just to try.

My signal boosters didn't work as well as I expected it, but it still worked a little. Also, what I tried with nextel phones, is take the antenna out, bite on it, and put both your arms out like you are a tower. What do you get? More service!

I think we need a photo, lpxxfaintxx!! That's hilarious. But it only works with Nextel, huh? LOL

It was working fine until one day, the signal strength all of sudden became consistently low. The speed was horrendously slow and it would disconnect every ten minutes. This is torturous. I've tried adjusting positions, nothing. I think I might have a virus......
