Question Nokia 6300 or SE K550i

Hello. I wonder if anyone can help me. I am looking at replacing my K800i as I find it a bit too chunky and don't really make use of the camera.

As I'm halfway through my contract my only choice is to by a reasonably priced payg handset and switch the sim cards. I have narrowed my choice to the Nokia 6300 or SE K550i, mainly because of their compact dimensions, reasonable price and half decent features.

Having used Sony Ericssons for the last couple of years the familiarity appeals to me whereas I have not used a Nokia for a long time.

From reading the specs the K550i has a TFD screen compared to the K800i's TFT and I am concerned this will look poor in comparison.

Please can anyone offer their experiences of either of these handsets to help me choose?

Thank you.

Thumbs down

I wouldn't go with the Nokia 6300 as I've seen bad reviews of it and people have told me they can't hear calls on it very well. The guys at work are given them as their standard business phone and have some have even bought their own phone as it's so bad.

There are some reviews on: http://www.gadgetstylist.com/product.../45/nokia-6300

I reckon the SonyEricsson would be the better of the two but are there no other options? How about a W880i? Aren't they cheaper on PAYG now?

Many thanks for your advice. I did buy the 6300 in the end but returned it as I just couldn't get on with it. The ring volume was not loud enough, I couldn't hear it at all in my pocket, plus there were lots of other niggles. Not at all like the Nokias of old that I owned and loved!
I got the K550i which was a bargain at 55 from CPW. The display is a bit inferior to the K800i but I soon got used to it. Otherwise it's an excellent phone with decent features, pretty much identical to the K800i apart from the screen and camera, and very light and compact. Plus the camera light doubles as a makeshift torch aswell!

Nice one. Glad it worked out in the end. I think SonyEricsson have got some great phones at the moment. I loved my old W880i. Maybe you should stick a review of your new phone on the Gadget site? I see they have a competition for best review going at the mo.

I've put a review of the K550i on GadgetStylist.com. Looks like it'll be a good site when there are more reviews on there. Thanks again.
