Outlawing cell phone use while driving
What do you think about state making it against the law to use your phone while driving? This is pretty controversal.

I am all for it. Get distracted sales people, stressed out soccer moms and anyone else on a cell phone, who is driving, out of my way. Heck, the world once did function without cell phones...all of a sudden it can't function if we can't chat on the phone while driving? |

Driving while talking on the phone is criminal, pure and simple. You don't need a scientific study to see that it does affect your driving. I have lost count of the number of phone/drivers I have seen go through red lights, ignore pedestrians on a crossing, fail to indicate, drive slowly and erratically and so on.
I think the £30 penalty in the UK is ridiculous - it needs to be a least 4 penalty points and a hefty fine to go with it. That way it's 3 strikes and your off the road. And for every penalty point your insurance goes up etc. I enjoy the fact that when I'm driving I have a good excuse to be left in peace and quiet, like in the old days... Charles |

Its gonna happen, yes it sucks, but when anything has a negative effect, the law can't allow it.

This needs to be outlawed, too many reckless drivers out there that need to get off the phones.

In my country, texting while driving is strictly prohibited. But calling is still approved. I wish it will also be banned for the safety of the general public who are on the road. When you are driving and being distracted by your phone, you have a tendency to meet an accident.

I'm all for it as well. There are designated places on the sides of the road where you can stop to make emergency phone calls. Talking and driving in combination can add up to a big accident.

I'm for the law as well. Unfortunately, at the end of the day it's up to the police officers to take care of the problem. And where I live that doesn't seem to be happening. If only I could be a police officer for one day....

Yeah police officers don't seem to care about it though I don't see them doing much about anything. Just last week i past a cop who was smoking a joint down the road :/

Well, that's a shame to say the least. Don't understand why some cops are crooked and careless, but that's another subject.

It is, but the point is they won't stop people driving down the road who are blabbing away on their phones whether it becomes illegal or not.

What I really hate in the UK, is the people with good cars such as the Range Rovers and the M6's etc who go around with a mobile constantly to their ear when they are driving.
It makes them no better than anybody else because they have a good car, but they think they have to go around with their phone to their ear to look good. I know when I have my licence (Very Soon) I won't be driving round with it too my ear, just buy an in car kit. Alot easier |

You know what? Yesterday I went to the movies and out to eat with my mother, and she started to talking on the cell phone while she was driving. She never does this when I'm the car, so I was pretty mad about it.
We were sitting in the car and we were parked. Just got out of the theatre and my aunt calls. She start talking to her, then all of a sudden she starts pulling out! Her back wheel runs over the curb, but that didn't seem to phase her any. Then we get ready to pull out of the exit and she's still talking! I'm telling her to just stop driving and get off the phone. But apparently, she doesn't care lol. She pulls out and continues to talk. Then finally when we get to a stop light she hangs up and gives me an evil look lol. I was so angry, so I start preaching to her about not talking on the cell while driving lol. Then she was like, "Don't tell me how to drive." I was like, "I will when you're threatening my safety." or something like that. She didn't like that at all. Needless to say, the ride home was silent after that. It just really bothered me and what made it even worse is that she gets mad when she sees someone else driving like that. That's what I don't get, but oh well. Just thought I'd share that, hehe. |

Yeah Karl I think the car kit is a lot safer then just using your hands or using a hands-free device. That way both hands are on the wheel and you can still hear whats going on around the car.
