Samsung A70 android version 10 closing apps

Hi, I keep some of my apps open on my phone in the recently used apps section accessible via the shortcut "key" on the left on the screen, the 3 lines,but my phone has started closing them and it says no recently used apps. anybody got any idea why this happening without me changing any thing?
