The 'code' is available thro your network provider.

If you perform a search you will find more info about this subject.

Motorola C168i

Dear Lee,

Thanks for the tip, for the problem is, I bought the phone in the U.S. (with SIM chip), now I can't use it in the Philippines w/o code, so I need a little more specifics on how to "research" the fix.

Mike

Hi Mike,

Trust you are well.

As you know the handset is locked out to the original network. This is to enforce the user to use their network in order to recover the subsidy levied against the sale of the handset. This code can be removed by using unlock codes the handset manufacturer installed to open it up to all available networks depending wether it's tri or quadband.

This code can me obtained from the network it's set to but you would have to be a customer on their network and the contract elapsed or 3 months have gone by on a payg.

The other way is to visit a stand alone cellfome shop or visit a market trader.

Dont be allures by online sites offering codes ,cables or disks. Most handsets have 3-4 unlock codes and is sometimes trial and error on getting the active one.

Motorola C168i ....

Lee - Thanks for your response. Appreciate all the technical details about the codes - it's all about corporations making the big bucko-s. I was hoping to find he unlock code on-line, because in the Philippines the "stand alone cell phone shops" (basically where they unlock cell phones) didn't recognize this particular model, so I already tried that approach. Any other assistance and suggestions would be appreciated.

As I said their are lots of sites and auction sites offering unlock options.

Its obviously your choice if you want to take the risk.

The other option is to buy a new fone outright or a used fone from a local retail shop, which is open to the network you want to use.

Good luck dude.
