Sounds like a firmware issue.

See if an update gets the bugs out.

Nokia handsets are renowned for holding onto network signal better than other makes.

Again if a software or firmware update does not cure these issues then in my humble opinion drop the handset and invest in a Nokia handset.

My contract supplier has agreed to replace my phone due to poor reception performance (a friend in the communications industry thinks this may be due to having a 2g and 3g reciever so close together in such a thin phone) Any recomendations for a currently available phone renowned for picking up and holding onto a signal in poor areas would be much appreciated.

Nokia N96 if you have the budget. Another option will be N6300 because its sleek and super user-friendly...

Lee is right, Nokia phones tend to have better reception. But have u tried upgrading? $555 is a sweet tag for an unlocked C905 @ puremobile.com
