Phones in movie theaters

I have never been to a movie theater when someone was actually rude enough to be talking on the phone, but I was at a movie once where someone was surfing the net on her phone! It was quite irritating cause the theater was dark and you could see her screen. I think people should just be respectful of others.

True, there's nothing worse than having a gang of teenage girls in the cinema while you are trying to watch a film you like. They have no respect for others and will shout on their phones and play games on them all the way through the film.

I've only had it happen to me once and got a refund plus free tickets and I make sure I never go on the school holidays any more.

My question or curiousity is why don't they just turn the phones off like it says in the previews before the movie starts. Better yet if they get the call why not get up and leave the thearter temporarily till the conversation is over. I really didn't pay to hear how your lousy date went the night before.

Completely agree with everything you have said - its a sad fact that the majority of todays youth have no respect for rules or other people. They should have some sort of scanner on the doors of cinemas that will detect if your mobile is on or not - if it is then you are not allowed entry.

I like to leave my mobile on but I double and triple-check it is on silent - handy in case the baby-sitter calls!

The BBC news carried a story of a theatre-goer whose mobile rang during a performance last November. The main actor was so annoyed about it that he stopped acting and asked her to switch it off or leave the theatre, and got a round of applause for it! See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/4462350.stm

Cheers,
Charles

I was at a movie the other week, and there was a guy sitting a few seats over from me who was constantly either talking on his cellphone or arguing with his wife. It was quite annoying, and eveyone in the area found it disruptive. People like this generally just come off as jerks.

Oh, man, I was reccently at a local movie theatre and I was enjoying the film, when all of a sudden, I hear a little ring.

It would have been one thing if he would have turned the darn thing off, but he let it go until it stopped ringing.

Some people just have no consideration for others. Its a shame people just dont get that you have paid to see a film you dont want to sit there listening to the crazy frog!

Trust me, teenagers around here do it all the time. Some people just have no respect for others, even before cell phones.

Hey, if you are sick of it call a worker or a manager and get the people removed, thats the easiest way.

I always make sure my phone is turned off! If the kids are with a sitter, turn it on vibrate! I was watch a news conference on tv last fall, and the coach of a football team got so mad that a cell phone rang, that he called off the conference until the culperet came forward!

I have a friend who has the magical gift of being able to call me at the worst possible times. Unfortunately, I've forgotten to silence my phone before going into the theater a couple of times. If he didn't live several states away from me, I'd swear I was being stalked. Mere mortals aren't meant to have luck like his.

It just shows a complete lack of respect not to make sure your phone is on silent - I mean there are enough warnings everywhere telling you to turn it off!

I always double check to see if its off or on silent, I don't think people's phones should not have their phones on them while they're at theaters for security reasons but they should at least keep it on silent. I mean unless it's an emergency there really is no reason to be talking on a phone during a movie period.
