W580i fitness section

As already mentioned, I have a W580i and I'm not really the one for technology. Its got a fitness section on it which seems to know the distance I've ran and the speed. I'm really pleased as it would be very useful, but are the numbers it shows accurate? I don't want to waste my time if what its saying isn't correct, I mean how can it know the speed I'm going at and how far I've gone?

I would also like to be advised on a case for it when running, I don't want to just stick it in my pocket. Any one will do, either on the waist or an arm one, just the one that works best for the running.

I would really appreciate your help.

Thank you for your time,

Although for some this feature would be useful i would not lend too much weight on the readings 100% accurate. I would suspect they would be approximated.

Their is technology released specifically for this use and i would purchase one of those if your serious about your fitness schedule.

Their are scores of handset cases available and would suggest you google, try auction sites, and visit your local cellfone outlets.

I had this phone myself a while back and I seem to remember you could calibrate the 'stepometer' by walking a known set distance with the phone and then telling it how far you've just walked. I assume it then gets to know how many steps you do over say 500m and registers your future steps accordingly. I don't have the phone anymore to check so it would be worth delving through the settings.

it uses the thing that makes shake control work and every up and down shake (1 step) puts one step on the pedometer
