Blackisted phone

Hi everyone,

I'm new here, I just need some advice I thought this might be a good place to get some help...

I bought a phone on eBay a few months ago, and after using it for a few months it got blacklisted, so I can't make any calls on it. I contacted the seller and he was unwilling to help, he got it from a friend of a friend of a friend (who presumably got it off the back of a lorry, or sold it on without paying their contract), and as it was longer than 90 days, ebay wouldn't help either.

My question is, what can/should I do with this phone? I've kind of resigned myself to the fact that I've lost my money, but is there any (legal) way of getting it working? If not, what should I do... should I give it to the police?

Thanks for your help!

Sounds like its been imei locked which the networks only apply when the handset is a victim of fraud or theft.

only the rightful owner can release the lock. in this case its the network.

im surprised e bay wont help.

in essence the handset belongs to the network.perhaps you could ring them and see if they would consider accepting a payment from you to open the device.

i hear so many horror stories on items purchased from these sites.

i hope it works out for you

The IMEI has been blocked in the UK only. The EIR (equipment identity register) in Dublin is a server shared by all UK networks which stores information on blacklisted IMEI's. No way you can get this removed if it is not your own purchase.
