Best phone for GPS, talk and web use? Help!
Hope I can maybe get some advice. I have been with O2 for donkeys years, always had good service, always managed to get them to match deals offered elsewhere via retentions etc etc.
Been due an upgrade for ages and spend enough that I can choose any phone for nothing which is great but I need a decent handset to go with it. Problem is because o2 have the iphone the smartphone selection is limited.
Question is I want a phone for:
Good call signal
Using as sat nav so need good GPS
Ideally loading memory map software on so really needs to be a windows mobile platform
Decent battery life (don’t mind regular recharges but every day can be inconvenient)
Internet access- unltd data bundle so do want to use it
Not bothered about:
Music player - yes they all have one but I can take it or leave it
Camera- I do need one but not fussed about a very high quality one
Would like a keyboard as in my previous experience touchscreens just don't work quite well enough to be stress free and do want to be able to have one hand operation for basic functions.
Needs to be a reasonable size and my hands are medium to large size so the tinier handsets are a bit too fiddly.
So, now O2 in their infinite wisdom have the iphone (Which they wont do any deals on tariff, surprise surprise) I feel limited on what handset to choose. If I have to leave o2 I will (need to match 1000 mins 1000 txt and unld data for under 30 pounds though.
I was planning on going for the Serra (HTC Touch Pro) but from reading here and one the web there seem to be so many problems with the GPS as to make it unusable. Also thought about the Sony Experian X1 which is also HTC and pretty much the same phone (though haven’t seen anything about the GPS situation with this one)
So now feel confused and unsure as to whether I need to change from O2 to get what I want.
Doesn't feel like too much to ask, decent phone with good GPS, battery and web??
Any recommendations from those who have and are using specific handsets or have read conclusive user reviews (please not from those who are basing their views on industry 'reviews')
Many, many thanks for any help
I can recommend the HTC Touch HD. While it doesn't have a physical keyboard, entering text on the screen is a doddle. By far the best mobile internet experience I've had with the 800 wide screen res and Opera. Battery life has been impressive and call signal strength (something too often overlooked) is impressive too.
