I want to disable 3g on phone

Hi. I am on 3 with a LG U300. I am very happy with the tariff. But the 3G reception in my house is terrible meaning it's really difficult to call out and the call often cuts out halfway through the conversation.
I can change the phone manually to 2g but it automatically resets after a period of time. I have looked on the web and by the looks of things you can't stop this resetting.
Can anybody recommend a phone(s) where I can put my present usim in and then disable 3g. I don't need to download or surf from my phone - just make calls. It would be nice if the phone was user friendly for storing contacts and hopefully a reasonable camera, have a nice keypad . Apart from that I don't need bells and whistles!
I'd buy the phone s/h off ebay.
Thanks in advance
Dave

So..how I've heard you there, the 3g, takes over the 2g? On all the phones I have has (nokia) if there is 3g availible, great but if there is suddenly a drop in signal and it goes to 2g, this won't be a problem for the phone call. So while I have got 3g activated, I am recieving that, and 2g at the same time. The nokia phones I have had are 6280, n73, & n95 8gb.

Unfortunately not on my phone! I think (guess) if the call was initiated in 3g and 3g drops out you lose the call as it changes to 2g. Sometimes the call drops in and out before giving up the ghost. People think you've hung up on them on purpose! If you're +ve sure that it transfers seamlessly to 2g on your phones then maybe I could try nokia phone but does it also depend on network?
