Battery consumption problem with LG KU311 with Orange

Hi all

Hope someone can help with this irritating problem. My wife has an LG KU311 phone with Orange. The battery only lasts a day or so (absolute max.) on standby before having to be charged. It has been like this since new so don't think it is the battery.

I suspect that something must be in use that is draining the battery. I have done the obvious things (chosen Power Save which dims and switches of the display after a few seconds) and made sure that bluetooth is disabled.

I notice that the Music Store option is the main shortcut that is displayed all the time, bottom left, on the screen when you open the phone. This is the option to log on to download music. Does this monitor something, or establish a connection behind the scenes that could be draining the battery? There does not seem to be any way to disable the Music Store, or get rid of it off the screen?

If it is not the Music Store, I am at a loss as to what could be draining the battery so severely. Can any owner/expert out there help us?

Many thanks

RJ

If after turning all the power hungry apps you are still getting poor battery usage then if may be that the battery is shot or the power management of the handset needs to be looked at.

Try a new battery or book it in with an engineer.

Thanks for the reply. Like I say, the performance has been like this pretty well since the phone was new. Have you any ideas about what other app could drain the battery like this?

Also - it would be good to know how to turn the Music Store off. Nothing in the handbook about it.

Cheers.

The battery stand time quoted is Up to 170 hours and the talktime is 4 hours, but these are at optimum conditions and should not be relied upon.

Power drainage is down to may reasons.

Bluetooth.
GPRS always on.
Music / video use.
Natural use of the fone for calls/textx etc.
Poor signal strength makes the fone work harder to maintain network signal.

Some fones on the market do need recharging more frequently, some every day or so. These are usually smart fones such as the Nokia Series 60 handsets. ie n95 due to the power hungry app's.

What you could do ;

New battery.
Software/firmware update.
Engineer to look at the power management.
New choice of handset.

Thanks for your helpful reply. Looking more carefully at my wife's phone it does have a G3 symbol next to the connection one. Is this the same as GPRS? We don't use G3 here in Spain - is it possible to turn it off or disable it? Can't find anything in the manual about it!. You can guess that I am a newbie at all this!!

Hi,

Go into your fone menu, settings and connectivity.

Select an option of when needed or something familiar.

The 3g symbol shows 3G networks enable network operators to offer users a wider range of more advanced services while achieving greater network capacity.

This setting however would not cause over drainage of the battery.
