Unlocking Mobile Fones.

Handsets are locked out so that the network it was sold on can recoup the subsidy levied against the handset ,when sold on contract or payg.

Just check out the sim free prices of fones to see how much they discount them by !

All handsets can be unlocked.

3 months into a payg you can ask for the unlock code for a small fee.

After a 12,18 or 24 month contract ends you can request from the Network the unlock code for a fee.

Some handsets sold on contracts are already unlocked. Insert an alternative networks sim to see if yours is unlocked.

Some market traders also unlock for a fee too.

Handsets that have been IMEI locked out cannot be legally opened by anyone apart from the network. This type of lockout is usually due to theft or fraud.

My advice is dont be tempted by sites offering discs, cables and codes for a fee.

Most handsets have 3-4 unlock codes so it can be trial and error getting the right one to work.

So yes you can unlock although 3 handsets are notoriously hard to unlock due to all the software they impose on it.
