Question Buying off ebay - is it safe?

Would you recommend buying a phone, cheaply off of ebay..?

Like this for example: Ebay

Here we have a Sony Ericsson W880i, which is perfect for my needs and for a poxy £ sounds almost too good to be true, is it risky?

Has anyone else bought succesfully off ebay at these prices? It just sounds as if it cant be kosher as its stupidly cheap, if you know what I mean? Its ideal though, because cash is very tight and I can't shell out for a brand new one from the high street.

I have read so many horror stories by people who have purchased off auction sites.

Blocked fone via imei due to theft or fraud.

Fone working for a while then blocked a few days/weeks later as the network catches up.

Handset locked to one network.

Chinese copies made from cheap components.

Generally you can obtain a good deal from a person who is simply selling their handset ,as they have upgraded.

Be aware of companies from hong kong etc.

If its too good to be true then it generally is.

Do not pay by cash, cheque, debit cards or postal orders etc.

Some credit card companies offer online cover etc.

Pay by Paypal only.

The phone you have found is not £3.00, this is the postage charge.

The fone is up for bidding and so can rise.

You will have to purchase a battery and charger as they are not included.

Yes, the starting bid was £3 though!

I agree it's a bit odd that there's no battery/charger, but then again when you could easily pay £40 for this phone, can't really complain!

Be sure, you're buying something from a trusted Buyer. Look out for the comments and the feedback points. Most of the stuff on ebay is Chinese and you should feel absolutely free to ask the seller as many questions as you wish to.

when the nokia 8310 first came out, i bought 2 off ebay off what i thought was a good seller, paid him £550 and didnt recieve anything, and never got anything back off paypal, be very warey. chances are if they have been on ebay a few year and got good rating they wont risk losing that status and they will be fine, watch out for the new members! hope this helps
