Question Sony Ericsson W995 WiFi connection?

Hi everyone,

I have recently been the grateful recipient of Sony Ericssons W995 & although I am still fumbling my way around it I cannot get it to connect to my home internet service. It finds it no problem, asks for my password & then just cannot connect. I have looked through the manual but no success. Has anyone any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

Thanks all,

Dave.

Providing your wifi is switched on and your router you are trying t connect to is also on, there should be no problem in at least finding it on your phone.
Although some routers do have a "hidden" setting, which obviously allows them not to be found.
Try looking on the status of your router and te devices connected when trying to connect, then click allow or something.

What router do you have?

Hi there. I have the same problem. Recieved today and will not connect ia wifi. I know I am using the right passphrase and have even accessed my netgear router to change passphrase, to no avail. So I disabled the account security and it finds my home wireless, says it's an open account but still will not connect!! Anyone have any fixes for this??

Thanks to all for the replies. I have found that the password to connect to sky ( my IP provider) is actually on the side of the router & is case sensitive. When the phone asks you to provide your password it automitically is set to LOWER CASE. To change to upper case you have to tap the * on the phone keypad & this changes it to UPPER CASE. I could not find this on the broadsheet user manual, but there is quite a bit of info in the phones help menu. I suggest any problems look in here not the user manual.

Thanks again to all.

SE phones have a wi-fi connectivity problem. Here in India, they hardly seem to work. I have a functional wi-fi router and it never worked on a SE my friend had.

no problems here

I got my w995 last week, connected it to my WEP encrypted Wlan, no problems what so ever. Just make sure to enter the correct key. Now it connects automatically when I get in range

Question

Mine connects fine and browses the internet just fine through the Wi-Fi connectivity, but I was wondering if it charges you. I'm on contract and don't have an internet bolt-on, so mobile internet will charge me. Will using this do just the same and charge extra to my monthly bill?

It's my home wireless router that I use for the computer and the PS3. And what you're saying is that o2 won't do roaming charges for using it?

No because you are using your own separate wifi account its got nothing to do with your phones air time provider...

1 The w995 is a great phone IMHO.. Once you get into it and play around with it.. Its is Awesome..

2 The signal you recieve is not down to the phone but your air time provider (Orange)

3 How to connect via WI-FI IS SIMPLES! Go to connections tick WI-FI on, it will search local networks for you. A list of WI-FI networks will show on the screen, Just click the one you want and put in your WEP key (if protected) the WI-FI icon in the top left hand corner by the signal icon should go GREEN you are now conected... Now go to internet (the globe in the middle on the top row of the menu) and click on anyone of the SE links and you should be on line surfing till the early morning..

Im having similar problems with my w995. I got it a few weeks ago and used the wifi fine. I havent used it for a couple of weeks though and tried to check my emails but it wont find the network. Ive tried it right next to the router and also with someone elses network and it just wont find it. Are there any settings that may have been changed?

Only you know if you have changed the settings. If it was working before then it should be working now .. Note my post above on how to connect to WI-FI VIA a home router... Iv had mine a couple of months now and its never let me down...
