Loathe my phone - need help on changing it!

A bit of advice from you knowledgeable people, please.

I really hate my Samsung F480 Tocco - I've had it for about 6 months and feel like chucking it in the river! I'm on a monthly contract with Vodafone here in the UK and don't qualify for an upgrade until January 2010.

Would you recommend I buy another phone, SIM-free, from Vodafone or is it wise to buy it elsewhere? I'm not sure where the best SIM-free deals would be. Maybe eBay, or somewhere like Carphone Warehouse?

Is there a way you could recommend of searching for the best SIM-free deals?

Thanks in advance - all info gratefully accepted.

Ian

Hi,

What dont you like about the Tocco !
Its not that bad a handset !

Carfone Warehouse supply most of their handsets unlocked so you could choose a fone on any payg contract and simply put in your existing sim. Be prepared for the £20 if paying by cash or £10 if paying by credit/debit card charge, although you get this back as it is put on the new sim.

Carfone warehouse also let you have a play with working demo models before purchasing. Ensure you check out their returns policy as networks allow different ways of refunding or exchanging handsets.

I would not recommend purchasing from e bay due to issues with imei locked handsets or cheap chinese copies etc.

In the end if you have the disposable income then you can choose whatever model you set your heart on.

Let us know what you eventually decide on.

Oh, there's just so much I don't like about it, Lee. Awkward texting, too low call volume, nasty touch-screen - maybe it's my age (58), I think it's for a younger person.

I think I'll go for the Nokia E63 which is about £160 from some online suppliers. Or I may buy it from an Orange shop - they said they'd put the £20 top-up you have to buy onto my other phone's Orange SIM.

Thanks so much for your advice - all noted. I'll let you know how I get on.

Well, that didn't take long! Have bought a Nokia E63 from 3 for £150 (which I will have to get unlocked - they do it for £15) including delivery and a £10 accessory voucher. And I've put the Tocco on eBay!

All the best and thanks again.
